Cummins receives EPA certification for 2010 engines

Several of the company’s heavy- and medium-duty engines, including the ISB6.7 and ISC8.3, which are used for school bus applications, meet the agency’s near-zero emissions level requirement. Cummins has utilized selective catalytic reduction technology to meet the EPA’s 2010 standards.

NHTSA proposes changes to safety standard for buses

The agency issues a proposal to amend FMVSS No. 217 to specify that the exterior handle for school bus rear emergency exit doors may be located opposite the door hinges, and to clarify the standard in regard to the number of force applications that are required to open a window or roof emergency exit.
The Very Worst Thing, a documentary on the deadly 1958 school bus crash in Prestonsburg, Ky., features interviews with people affected by the tragedy and original pictures from the scene, including this one.

Texas agency gets $3.1M for alternative-fuel efforts

The Railroad Commission of Texas will use the funds to add 258 propane-powered school buses and 24 support vehicles to 19 public fleets. The grant will also fund upgrades to 19 refueling sites for the fleets to accommodate advances in propane vehicle technology.
