Trucker gets 3 years in fatal bus crash

The tractor-trailer driver was allegedly using his cell phone before ramming into a stopped school bus in Florida in 2008. The fiery collision took the life of a 13-year-old student and injured several others.
Barry Stock has been a fixture in the pupil transportation community since he launched Stock School Transport in 1988. The current executive vice president of business development for National Express Corp. will retire at the end of July.

STA drivers win 11 trophies at roadeo

Twelve school bus drivers representing the contractor competed in the 57th Annual Southern California Sectional Roadeo this month. Among the awards they received was the team title in the Best Represented category. Trophy winners will compete in the State Championship Roadeo this Sunday.

School bus catches fire on California freeway

Motorists help evacuate students as the bus becomes engulfed in flames. Two children suffer from smoke inhalation, but no one is seriously injured. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the fire.

Beginning in 2014, new school buses would have to be equipped with lap-shoulder belts. Operators would not be held liable if passengers don’t buckle up.
Napa Valley USD's hybrid small bus was on display at a town and country fair last August. After the fair, the floral decor wrap was removed, and district lettering was painted on. The district was the first to receive the Collins hybrid.
Industry veteran honored for alternative-fuel efforts

Ralph Knight, transportation director for Napa (Calif.) Valley Unified School District, receives the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute’s Magic School Bus Award for implementing alternative-fuel use at his operation. The district was the first in the nation to receive Collins' Type A hybrid-electric school bus.

A school bus driver was able to steer his bus into a concrete retaining wall, stopping the vehicle while he began to have a heart attack. The driver reportedly told his passengers to brace themselves before the crash.
Bill would set penalties for operating poorly maintained buses

New Connecticut legislation would establish fines for school bus companies if they fail to abide by state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) inspection orders, and impose a fine of up to $2,500 on operations that transport students and file false statements with the DMV regarding maintenance, repair or use of a school bus.
