EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — A student with autism who fell asleep on her school bus and missed the stop for her school eventually arrived safely, but her mother said she received conflicting information about the incident, WRDW reports.

Renee Bush, mother of 7-year-old Joslyn Bush, told the news source that her daughter was left on the bus on Jan. 22 at Jet Middle School for almost two hours. She said she received a call at work at 7:30 p.m. about the incident.

The Edgefield County School District told WRDW that Joslyn was never alone; the bus driver continued driving his other routes, unaware that Joslyn was still on the bus sleeping. The district added in a statement that it gave to WRDW that after the driver finished dropping off students on Joslyn’s route, he began the second morning route, picking up middle school and high school students. During that route, he discovered that Joslyn was still on the bus. After completing the second route, the driver transported her to her school, and “personally escorted her into the building,” signing her in at the school at 8:10 a.m. The statement also said that the driver “took all appropriate steps to ensure that the student remained safe and was delivered safely to school.”

Joslyn's mother reached out to the school board and was given the information in the statement. She said that the time frame doesn’t make sense, and that she is going to try to get more of her questions answered, according to the news source.
