FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Law enforcement officials said that a school bus aide here has been charged with assaulting a boy with autism on his bus in two separate incidents, The Washington Post reports.

According to a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department that was obtained by the newspaper, Hyung Lee was charged with two counts of assault and battery related to two incidents in October. Lee turned himself in to police on Nov. 21.

Police spokeswoman Reem Awad told The Washington Post that the boy’s mother found bruises on her 12-year-old son’s arms and reported the injury to school officials. A supervisor reviewed bus video footage that showed two incidents involving the boy and Lee: one on Oct. 10 and another nine days later, police told the newspaper.

Additionally, two other Fairfax County Public Schools employees were recently arrested for allegedly harming an 11-year-old boy with autism twice in one week, police told The Washington Post. John Torre, a spokesman for the school district, told the newspaper that drivers and aides who transport students with special needs are being retrained in proper restraint and intervention procedures. Torre added that the district’s transportation office “will continue to closely monitor the special education bus routes to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.”
