Durham Donates School Bus for Summer Meal Program

School bus contractor Durham gave a bus and a $2,500 check to Huntsville (Ala.) City Schools for its Summer Feeding program.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Durham School Services donated a school bus, accompanied by a $2,500 check, to support Huntsville City Schools’ Summer Feeding program.
The check will be used in refurbishing the bus for the program, which offers free meals to children in various locations in Huntsville during the summer break.
"We are proud to donate a bus that will assist the efforts of Huntsville City Schools to feed the children in our community this summer,” said Wendy Daniel, general manager for Durham. "This partnership is meaningful to us at Durham, because it allows us to continue serving our students in a meaningful way during the summer months.”
The Summer Feeding program, which started three years ago, is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service, enabling Huntsville City Schools to provide free meals without any accrued budget costs.
"During the school year, we provide breakfast and lunch for our students. Unfortunately, many students and their families do not have the means to receive an adequate amount of meals during the summer months," said Dr. Casey Wardynski, superintendent of Huntsville City Schools. “This generous donation will allow us to provide free meals to even more children and their families than previous years.”
Bridgestone donated new tires for the bus.
