HAMILTON, Ontario — A teenager was arrested after allegedly taking his friends for a ride in a stolen school bus last week, authorities said.

According to the Hamilton Police Service, the school bus was stolen from a location in the Stoney Creek area of Hamilton around Dec. 23 by a youth who needed a ride home.

“He had kept the bus tucked away over the holidays and [later] decided to pick up some friends and cruise the city streets in the school bus,” Hamilton police officials said in a statement.

On Dec. 30 at about 10:25 p.m., police were called to a coffee shop after three male youths were seen exiting a school bus. Police located the youths and determined that the bus had been stolen.

One of the youths, a 17-year-old, was arrested and charged with possession over $5,000.
