MASCOUTAH, Ill. — Eighteen students and a bus driver were rescued after their school bus was swept into a retention pond on Monday, KMOX reports.

Herb Simmons, the St. Clair County emergency management director, told the news source that the bus and a semi-truck tried to drive through flood waters. Fire department staff members rescued the students and the bus driver from high water, and no injuries were reported, according to the Belleville Fire Department Public Information Officer Twitter page.

People at the scene told KTVI that the students are members of the Mount Vernon Township High School girls’ basketball team.
