CHICAGO — A school bus driver was shot in the head and killed while leaving his home to go to work on Thursday, WLS reports.

Police said that Anthony Bowers was shot at around 6 a.m. while he was getting into his car, according to the news source. His mother had given him the car because she feared for his safety when he used to wait for the Chicago Transit Authority bus in the morning.

Bowers’ relatives told WLS that he had been a school bus driver for close to a decade and cared deeply for the students he transported. Relatives also told the news source that Bowers worked as an extra in TV shows and movies.

Police do not have anyone in custody, and police told Bowers’ relatives that investigators are reviewing surveillance video near the area of the incident, WLS reports.
