Mother launches car service to transport students

MILWAUKEE — A mother who had a negative experience with her child’s school bus has taken local student transportation into her own hands, starting a service that has been described as a “kiddie Uber,” WTMJ reports.

In July, Keyona Vines launched Kiddie Mobile, a car service that transports children ages 17 and under in the Milwaukee area, according to the news source. The service operates on a pre-pay system, gives parents flexibility in scheduling rides, offers private rides as an option, and records all trips with a dash camera, according to the company’s website. Additionally, drivers undergo background checks and drug testing, the website states.

Vines said that when her daughter was 6 years old, she didn’t arrive at the bus stop as usual one day, because the bus driver followed another route for another school, according to WTMJ. Her daughter was aboard the bus at the time, and was very upset by the time she got home, Vines told the news source.

A parent told WTMJ that the pickup fee and mileage cost per trip is well worth it, and another described the service as “a godsend” for her daughter.
