DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — A 12-year-old boy who was struck by a truck as he was crossing the road to board a school bus was airlifted to the hospital on Friday, WREG reports.

The boy is responsive and has a broken leg, according to the news source. Eleven students aboard the bus were transferred to another bus and taken to school.

John Caldwell, the transportation director of DeSoto County Schools wrote an email to WREG that the district asks drivers "to prepare to stop when they see the flashing lights of a school bus.”
