LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An elementary school student was dragged by her school bus last week when her backpack got stuck in the door as she was deboarding, WHAS reports.
The girl was reportedly headed to her babysitter’s house when the incident was recorded on a neighbor’s surveillance camera, according to the news source. The video shows parents and other children chasing after the bus to try to help the girl. It also shows a man speeding in his car around the bus, forcing it to stop around 100 feet down the street, witnesses told WHAS. Witnesses hailed the driver, Matthew Lundergan, as a hero.
The girl was alert when the bus stopped, witnesses told the news source. She was taken to the hospital with severe road rash, according to WHAS.
Jefferson County Public Schools officials are reviewing the surveillance footage to find out what happened, the news source reports.
