PASCO, Wash. — KVEW TV reports that Carlyn Kraft, a bus driver for the Pasco School District, sparked the idea for a “Books on the Bus” reading program after several years of reading to the students who ride on her bus and bringing them books.
The Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia learned of what Kraft was doing for the students and plans to launch the program this fall in her honor. Additionally, Kraft was honored with the 2014 Literacy Champion Award.
Over the years, Kraft bought hundreds of books for the students with her own money. The foundation will now provide her with books.
