DUBLIN, Ohio — Brad Aemisegger of Toledo Public Schools has been named Ohio's transportation supervisor of the year.

Aemisegger, the Toledo district's director of transportation, received the honor from the Ohio Association for Pupil Transportation (OAPT) at its awards banquet in Dublin last week.

The William Rice Award of Excellence, which designates the state's transportation supervisor of the year, is OAPT's highest honor.

According to an announcement on the OAPT website, Aemisegger said at the banquet that pupil transportation was an unlikely career choice for someone who studied accounting in school, but he is proud of the profession and honored by the award.

Aemisegger got his start in the industry almost 30 years ago as a school bus driver for Toledo Public Schools' transportation department, where he eventually moved up to the director position.

OAPT officials said that "Toledo’s children are fortunate to have such a caring and dedicated person at the helm of their transportation department."
