LOGAN, W.Va. — WSAZ reports that after a fire killed two children in their home on Oct. 21, a bus aide and a group of drivers teamed up to ensure every child’s home has a smoke detector.

School bus aide Rosemary Harvey and a group of school bus drivers, with the help of the Logan City Fire Department, gave out hundreds of free smoke detectors to grade-school children who ride Logan County buses. They plan to give smoke detectors to middle school students next.

Fire Chief Scott Beckett told the news outlet that the program is helpful in the area because it experiences significantly more fatal fires than most of the state.
