PLANO, Texas — Tyler Technologies Inc. launched Traversa, a school transportation management solution designed to transform K-12 school bus management operations and help school districts meet transportation objectives, according to company officials.

Traditionally, transportation software has been offered as stand-alone modules, each with different interfaces, disparate data sources and varied installation and training requirements. Traversa offers a comprehensive, customizable, web-based solution with a suite of transportation applications in one system, company officials said. The core functionality of Traversa includes bus routing, trip and activity management, work orders, fleet maintenance and GPS tracking.

Traversa is being offered as a cloud-based solution administered by Tyler’s staff. The product’s HTML5 foundation provides a touch-screen interface that has been optimized for tablet and traditional desktop user experiences. Traversa’s mapping and routing functionality is built on GIS technology from Esri and is coupled with GPS tracking technology. This combination gives users a total view of their operations and allows them to make real-time adjustments to transportation plans. It also facilitates data analysis to make operations more efficient and provides tools to manage the daily rollout of vehicles, company officials said.

“The Traversa transportation solution is the result of significant research and development with considerable input from our valued clients; Traversa is so easy to use, you can draw your bus route by tracing the map with your finger,” said Ted Thien, senior vice president of Tyler’s Versatrans solution. “Offering Traversa as a cloud-based solution gives school districts a robust transportation management solution with low upfront investment costs and a reduced implementation timeline.”
