Man facing kidnapping charges was fired as school bus driver

CLEVELAND — CBS News reports that Ariel Castro, the man who allegedly kidnapped and raped three Cleveland women who were discovered alive in his home on Monday, committed multiple violations over the years as a school bus driver, which resulted in his firing last November.

According to Cleveland Metropolitan School District discipline and personnel files on Castro, which were obtained by the news outlet, the director of transportation for the district recommended his termination in October 2012.

The director cited several infractions committed by Castro, each for which he was suspended. The infractions include “leaving a child on a bus” in 2004; “making an illegal U-turn in rush hour traffic with a bus load of students" in 2009; and “using the school bus to do his grocery shopping" in 2011. Castro was fired after he left a bus unattended at a school in September.
