District reroutes buses in response to bus stop shooting

Posted on March 20, 2013

MACON, Ga. — School buses were rerouted on Tuesday morning in response to reports of gunfire at a school bus stop and in the surrounding neighborhood.

The Macon Police Department and Bibb County School District campus police are conducting an ongoing investigation, but officials say no one was injured as a result of these incidents, and all procedures were followed “swiftly and efficiently.”

The Macon Police Department, campus police, transportation staff and school faculty are to be commended for their prompt and professional responses, officials added.

All Southwest High School students were given the opportunity to stay in school or return home with their parents on Tuesday, and the school district is providing support services for students and staff who request them.

“School safety remains our primary focus,” Acting Superintendent of Schools Susanne Griffin‐Ziebart said. “Southwest High School’s staff and campus police will continue to support students with supervision and other appropriate safety measures during dismissal from our school sites. We appreciate the care and concern they demonstrate for our students every day.”
