The latest group of pupil transportation professionals to complete the National Association for Pupil Transportation’s (NAPT) Special Needs Transportation Training program hail from Colorado and South Carolina.

Maria Adams, transportation supervisor at Denver Public Schools, completed the curriculum at the NAPT Summit in Memphis, Tenn., in the fall, and at course offerings in Colorado.

At Adams School District 14 in Commerce City, Colo., driver/trainer William Salaz achieved this recognition.

In addition, the following graduates are from Adams 12 Five Star Schools in Thornton, Colo.:

• Leonard Woofter, trainer
• Bob Spratte, transportation trainer
• Anjie Williams, scheduler/dispatcher
• Velma Henderson, scheduler/dispatcher

Finally, in South Carolina, Robert Hare, safety officer with School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties based in Irmo, completed the program.

The NAPT Special Needs Transportation Training Program provides transportation personnel serving students with disabilities with access to educational opportunities at both local and national conferences and enables them to gain national recognition for their efforts.

The program has a core curriculum that consists of six special-needs courses in a variety of settings, including a school bus roadeo and a trade show of school transportation products and services.

The core curriculum is supplemented by two courses of elective instruction from the NAPT Professional Development Series Program. The syllabus for the core curriculum has been designed to increase an individual’s specific knowledge about transporting students with disabilities, officials said.

A complete list of NAPT Special Needs Transportation Training Program elements is available on NAPT’s website.
