SAN DIEGO — A 32-year-old school bus mechanic passed away last week after being injured while he was working on a disabled bus.
According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, in the afternoon of Dec. 13, John Friedas Joaquin Jr. was on the southbound side of Interstate 805 working on the bus when a vehicle lost control and struck the rear of the bus, pinning Joaquin in the engine compartment.
Joaquin sustained polytrauma with a compound left femoral fracture and vascular injuries in the accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
He was transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery, but his condition declined and he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The cause of his death was hypovolemic shock due to extensive blood loss because of his injuries.
The San Diego division of the California Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
