Seven pupil transportation professionals from Colorado to Virginia have become the latest to complete the Special Needs Transportation Training Program.

Earning the endorsement from the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) are:

Susan Shutrump, OT/PT supervisor for Trumbull County Educational Service Center in Niles, Ohio.

Kris Allen, supervisor of transportation for Wasatch County School District in Lehi, Utah.

Josy Campbell, transportation special-needs coordinator for Widefield School District 3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Su Carlson, special-needs area supervisor for Loudoun County Public Schools in Leesburg, Va.

Jacqueline Mitchell, staff trainer for Adams 12 Five Star Schools in Thornton, Colo.

Heather Handschin, bookkeeper/secretary for Spotsylvania County Public Schools in Fredericksburg, Va. (Handschin also recently won the Continuing Education Award.)

Ashley Fussell, transportation area supervisor for Virginia Beach (Va.) City Public Schools.

The NAPT Special Needs Transportation Training Program provides numerous opportunities for transportation personnel serving students with disabilities to access educational opportunities at local and national conferences and to gain national recognition for their efforts.

The program has a core curriculum of six special-needs courses in a variety of settings, including a school bus roadeo and a trade show of school transportation products and services. The core curriculum is supplemented by two courses of elective instruction from the NAPT Professional Development Series Program.

NAPT officials said that the syllabus for the core curriculum has been specifically designed to increase participants’ knowledge about transporting students with disabilities.
