District official attributes bus driver shortage to student behavior

Posted on November 27, 2012

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. — A local school district is experiencing a bus driver shortage, and the transportation director has attributed it, in part, to drivers who were fed up with dealing with student misbehavior, WCSC reports.

There’s been a driver shortage at Colleton County School District for the last year and a half, but it’s gotten worse in the last six months, officials said. The shortage has caused some buses to be late to school, and many drivers have been forced to do double runs.

On Monday, the state Department of Education held a class for people who were interested in becoming a school bus driver. The school district is trying to hire 10 new bus drivers by Jan. 1.

I do school bus safety assemblies in Madison County Illinois and I feel the children need to be approached differently about school bus safety. In my assembly I have grade school students pledge school bus safety. I also sing songs I wrote about school bus drivers we call this a school bus safety concert. You can hear 1 of my songs on YouTube called excited school bus song this particular song is my public service announcement to school bus safety. I would be happy to come to 1 of your grade schools and do a school bus safety concert please contact me at [email protected] or call me at 618 9802052. I think there are some things the driver can be taught but I also feel the students are equally responsible for learning to get along with the bus driver and do their part for school bus safety. Please call Roxana Community Schools at 618 2547572 and speak with Paula or Joy . They can tell you more about me and what I do with the school bus safety assemblies. I get loud have fun and do PowerPoint presentation with the school bus safety rules. I can also do a separate presentation for the drivers with PowerPoint helpful hints a driver should know
