District official attributes bus driver shortage to student behavior
The transportation director for Colleton (S.C.) County School District blames the shortage, in part, on children’s conduct on the bus, and says that many drivers have been forced to do double runs. The state Department of Education holds a class for people who are interested in becoming a bus driver.
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. — A local school district is experiencing a bus driver shortage, and the transportation director has attributed it, in part, to drivers who were fed up with dealing with student misbehavior, WCSC reports.
There’s been a driver shortage at Colleton County School District for the last year and a half, but it’s gotten worse in the last six months, officials said. The shortage has caused some buses to be late to school, and many drivers have been forced to do double runs.
On Monday, the state Department of Education held a class for people who were interested in becoming a school bus driver. The school district is trying to hire 10 new bus drivers by Jan. 1.
