ROCK HILL, S.C. — The transportation director for Rock Hill Schools was pronounced dead Friday morning after seeking treatment for side pain and what he thought was pneumonia, The Herald reports.

Anthony White went to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after attending three basketball games Thursday night to watch his sons play. He reportedly had a history of heart problems, but the cause of his death had yet to be determined.

George Hampton, the district's former transportation director, told The Herald that when White joined the transportation department, he impressed everyone in the office with his "quick mind and polite spirit."

According to an announcement on the district's website, a memorial service for White, who was 49 years old, will be held on Wednesday at Rawlinson Road Middle School, and it will be open to the public. A funeral will be held on Saturday.
