Teen safely stops bus after driver suffers heart attack

PHILADELPHIA — A 17-year-old girl received praise for taking control of her school bus last week after the driver collapsed from a heart attack, according to a story on nbcphiladelphia.com.

Graceann Rumer was riding on the bus with about three dozen other students when driver Charles Duncan fell to the floor. Rumer grabbed the bus’ steering wheel and made a U-turn to slow it down and change direction, because it was heading into oncoming traffic. With Duncan obstructing the brake pedal, Rumer put the bus into park and was able to stop it.

None of the students was injured in the incident, but Duncan passed away soon after.
