A new digital video recorder (DVR) line from Radio Engineering Industries (REI) incorporates H.264 advanced video compression, allowing increased record time, ultimately storing more video, audio and vehicle data.

Both of REI's HD Series DVRs, the HD400 and the HD800, integrate convenient SD card and USB ports, providing the ability to update the hardware operating system using the USB drive.

REI simultaneously released a new version of its BUS-WATCH viewing software that is more user-friendly and packed with features. Enhancements include integrated Google mapping, increased recording/storage space, multiple live views, AVL packages and variable quality settings.

In other news, REI promoted two sales managers. Chris Shigley is now national sales manager, school bus, and Darwin Rubeck is national sales manager, transit and motorcoach.

Shigley, who has been with REI for two years, has more than 10 years of sales experience and extensive knowledge in transportation electronics. He graduated from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, with a BSBA in business and a focus in finance.

"He believes in the value of listening to customers, building strong relationships and making timeliness key in today’s connected world," the company said in an announcement. "Shigley works closely with REI’s sales representatives to instill those same values."

Rubeck has been in sales for more than 30 years and has been an integral member of the REI sales team since 2006. He is a graduate of Wayne State College with a BS in radio/TV broadcasting.

"He has vast insight on REI’s transit market, customers and products," the company said. "Rubeck considers himself a coach and general manager, encompassing training from ensuring the customer comes first through service after the sale."
