EAST ALTON, Ill. — Police are investigating an incident in which two men harassed a 5-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy last Friday after following the bus that the children were riding. Investigators have contacted the district where the children attend school, and they are reviewing the camera system on the bus as well as footage from surveillance systems in the area.

When the children exited the bus at a bus stop, the two men turned their vehicle around to approach them, KMOV reports. Once they pulled up, the driver of the car greeted the children.

The children told the men they did not know them, and asked why they had been following their bus. The male passenger said, “because I’m a rapist.” The children reported that the passenger and driver in the car then started laughing, gave each other a “high five,” and drove off, according to the news source.
