Kevin Jennings of the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) will give a keynote address on bullying at the upcoming Transporting Students With Disabilities & Preschoolers conference.

In announcing the presentation, conference officials pointed to two issues that most pupil transportation professionals acknowledge about bullying in the nation’s schools:

• students with disabilities are among the most vulnerable victims, and
• school bus drivers and attendants need and want more and better training on intervention methods, and more involvement in bullying prevention efforts within the school system.

Jennings, who is assistant deputy secretary of the DOE’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, will elaborate on what the federal government is doing to help school officials, including transporters, reduce bullying. His address will be on March 14 during the conference, which will be in Kansas City, Mo.

Jennings also spoke on bullying at the National Association for Pupil Transportation Summit in the fall.
