LAUREL, Miss. — After an accident in which a kindergartner was struck and killed by a passing motorist, Jones County School District's transportation department has developed two new safety programs for students and parents, the Laurel Leader-Call reports.

Under the "Meet Me at the Bus Stop" program, parents and guardians are urged to wait with students at the bus stop in the morning and meet them when they are dropped off at the end of the day.

The "My Brother's Keeper" program is designed to train older brothers and sisters to help escort their younger siblings during street crossings when loading and unloading.
