MACEDONIA, Ohio — The School Bus Safety Co.'s Driver Training Course can now be obtained with assistance from several insurance trusts and school risk groups.

According to Lee Gaby, executive director of the Public School Risk Institute, "More than 100 groups exist that may be able to purchase the course for their members or offer credits in their financing structure. Groups that do this are very likely to find highly supportive members and experience immediate positive impact on driver behavior."

Recently, seven state insurance pools have purchased the course for their members, including the Georgia School Boards Association, Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool, Montana School Group Insurance Authority, Maryland Association of Boards of Education and Virginia Municipal League Insurance Programs.

Jeff Cassell, vice president of district operations for School Bus Safety Co., said, "The districts own the pools, and it's always better to invest in preventing accidents rather than paying for losses. Almost every accident is caused by unsafe driver behaviors, so it follows that the best way to reduce accidents is to change those behaviors. The Driver Training Course leads to safer drivers and lower losses."
