SEAFORD, Del. — A deer was struck by a school bus and ended up on board in a bizarre accident Monday morning.

Police said that the bus was transporting 11 high school students when the deer crossed its path. As the bus collided with the deer, the animal was projected up and through the front windshield.

The deer ended up about five seats back in the center aisle, where it died, according to a Delaware State Police investigation.

Two students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The bus driver was not injured.

“This was certainly a very dangerous and disturbing incident for anyone to have to watch, let alone schoolchildren,” Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. “We are just very lucky no one was more seriously hurt.”
