PARAGOULD, Ark. — Paragould School District has taken steps to catch motorists who illegally pass stopped school buses by having cameras installed on its buses.

Richard Shelby, deputy superintendent for the district, told KAIT that each of the school system’s 30 buses is equipped with at least three cameras.

Some of the buses are also outfitted with a camera that has the ability to capture the license plate on the car that passes the bus. Those photos are then turned in to the police.

KAIT reports that in the few weeks since the cameras were installed, Paragould School District has already gotten footage of drivers passing buses.

The district is utilizing 247Security Inc.’s 51X Series Digital Video Recorder with interior and exterior cameras.
