GREENVILLE, S.C. — On Friday, the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) named the winners of its 2009 “America’s Best Technician” and “America’s Best Inspector” school bus maintenance competitions.

David Smith from Ohio won the technician title, and Nikolas Warejcka from Colorado took home the top prize in the inspector competition.

Tire manufacturer Michelin North America hosted the national gathering at its sales training center in Greenville.

To qualify as America’s Best technician and inspector, competitors were scored on both written examinations and multiple hands-on components. The exam covered technical aspects of various school bus components, including electrical systems, brakes, engines, suspensions, drive trains and body systems. The examination was prepared and administered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

Each year, the America’s Best competition is hosted by a different company involved in the school transportation industry. For more information, visit www.americasbesttech.org.
