SAN ANTONIO, Texas — On May 2, the Texas Association of School Bus Technicians (TASBT) held its second annual competition for technicians at Northside Independent School District (ISD).

TASBT President Dennis Thompson reported that the competition was modeled after the National Association for Pupil Transportation’s event, the America’s Best Technician and Inspector Competition.

The TASBT event featured 26 contestants and awarded three places in two categories.

The winners in the Inspector category were:

  • 1st - Ariel Rodriguez, Houston ISD
  • 2nd - Kirk Clegg, Pearland ISD
  • 3rd - Kevin Vollweiler, Frisco ISD

    The winners in the Technician category were:

  • 1st - Thomas Hillbig, Northeast ISD
  • 2nd - Danny Maples, Frisco ISD
  • 3rd - Perry Simmons, Alvin ISD

    Rodriguez and Hillbig will attend the America’s Best competition in Greenville, S.C., Sept. 22-25.
