DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — Durham School Services has acquired A&E Transport Services Inc.

Founded in 1981 by President and CEO Jay Saternow as a single-man operation out of Oswego, N.Y., A&E served school districts and special-needs children.

The company experienced dramatic growth over the years, and its service eventually extended across New York state, from the Canadian border to New York City.

David Duke, senior vice president of services at Durham, said the acquisition will allow the company to achieve its growth goals and increase its market presence in the state of New York.

A&E operates a fleet of approximately 300 school buses and is headquartered in Oswego. The company also has five additional locations.

Durham School Services contracts with school districts in 27 states and operates more than 10,000 buses.
