Wisconsin senator urges school bus seat belt legislation

Retiring Sen. Tim Cullen asks colleagues to continue working toward mandating seat belts in new school buses after his bill fell short of making it to the Senate floor for a vote last session. The president of the Wisconsin School Bus Association testified against Cullen's bill during a hearing late last year.

Driver honored for saving 40 children from bus fire

Last week, the Wisconsin School Bus Association named Steve Linehan Wisconsin School Bus Driver of the Year and presented him with a plaque at a luncheon. Linehan was driving the students to an elementary school, stopped the bus when he smelled smoke, and evacuated the children as flames spread. There were only very minor injuries.
Wisconsin contractors add 57 propane buses

Lamers Bus Lines added 41 new Blue Bird Propane Vision school buses, expanding the number of propane buses in its fleet to 59 units. Meanwhile, Badger Bus will receive 16 new Blue Bird Propane Vision buses, expanding its total propane-powered buses to 20 units.
Driver steers disabled school bus to safe stop

The Wisconsin-based contractor purchases 10 new Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision school buses and 10 Micro Bird propane autogas buses to serve Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District, and the company marks the event with an open house at its facility. Attendees witnessed a fueling demonstration and learned about the benefits of propane.

Founder of Lamers Bus Lines passes

Lyle Lamers passed away on Dec. 30 at the age of 97. He started the school and charter bus company in 1944 with his wife, Ellen, and reportedly drove buses for the company until he was 72 years old.

The Degnitz family, after 40 years in the business, sells Degnitz Bus Service to Riteway Bus Service Inc. Degnitz served the School District of Random Lake in Wisconsin, and officials say Degnitz's management and drivers will continue in their roles as part of the Riteway team.

Teen guilty of misdemeanor for bus theft

A boy who allegedly stole a school bus from one yard and drove it to another of the bus company's terminals last month is found guilty of an amended charge of driving a vehicle without consent. The boy reportedly broke into the company's office and stole the bus keys.
