School bus seats slashed at North Carolina district

Nearly 400 seats were cut on 17 school buses, causing about $50,000 of damage. Seats on only one of the buses could be temporarily repaired for the morning route, and the other 16 buses were replaced by spares.

Among changes to the state's school transportation equipment specs are requirements for remote-controlled mirrors, fluorescent seat belts for drivers, and fire block upholstery in all seating positions. Lap belts are no longer allowed on new school buses in Iowa, except for use with child seats.

Dan Daniels to join C.E. White Co.

Daniels, who announced last week that he will leave his position as president of Trans Tech Bus to be closer to his family, will serve as vice president of engineering and product development for the school bus seating manufacturer. Officials say the companies will work together over the next 120 days to ensure a smooth transition for incoming Trans Tech President John Phraner and Trans Tech customers.
