San Antonio school bus driver Dolores Martinez is pronounced dead at the scene on Monday after she suddenly loses control of her bus and it hits another bus, then crashes into a fence. Officials are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

During its normal after-school route, a Blue Hill Community Schools bus collides with a tractor-trailer in a rural intersection. Both vehicles come to rest in a ditch and are engulfed in flames, killing the drivers of both vehicles and two students.

Police cite the driver of a logging truck for making an improper turn after the Berkeley County (S.C.) School District bus is struck by a log on the back of the truck. The bus passengers are taken to the hospital as a precaution, but no one is injured.

The assistant state attorney says that nothing leading up to the crash, nor the crash itself, was a criminal offense.

District launches new bus evacuation training effort

The transportation staff at Maine School Administrative District #37 in Harrington incorporates side window emergency exit evacuation into its training following an accident wherein the rear exit of a bus became unusable. Director of Transportation Dawn Coffin tells SBF that the bus drivers learned safe techniques for this type of evacuation, and the district hopes to begin the training with students in the upcoming school year.

A school system in South Carolina changes its bus policy to prevent drivers from leaving keys on buses after the student steals a spare bus when he breaks free from his escort. The student and a person in the house are injured in the collision.
