Virginia pupil transporter completes special-needs training

Darlene Marshall with Fauquier County Public Schools is the latest person to complete the National Association for Pupil Transportation's (NAPT) Special Needs Transportation Training Program. The program has a core curriculum that consists of six special-needs courses, and it is supplemented by two courses of elective instruction from the NAPT Professional Development Series Program.

The event stems from the partnership between the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai and the National Association for Pupil Transportation in the U.S. The Dubai school transportation conference, to be held April 21 to 23, will feature workshops on pertinent topics — including safety, regulations and student management — and will include a trade show.

Among those recognized for their contributions to the industry are Cathy Snow of Elk Grove (Calif.) Unified School District, who receives the Heroism Award, Heather Handschin of Spotsylvania County (Va.) Schools, who receives the Continuing Education Award, and Victoria Creech of Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Fla., who wins the Special Needs Transportation Award.

He has also taken steps to help other districts become more efficient, serving as chair of the Metro Area Transportation Efficiency Study, a program that uses metrics to allow districts to compare themselves to others of a similar size and to find efficiencies.
Associations prep impressive agendas for Memphis
