Albert Hazen receives the citation after the Florida State Attorney’s Office reviews an investigation report from the Florida Highway Patrol, which finds that no drugs, alcohol or texting were involved, but Hazen was inattentive when he turned into the path of a semitrailer. The assistant state attorney says that nothing leading up to the crash, nor the crash itself, was a criminal offense.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials believe the bear is young and in search of new territory. Residents say the bear was walking down the street in the morning and, if it had been a school day, children could have been in danger.

In Monday’s accident, the school bus turns left in front of a semitrailer and is struck at the rear. Officials say the impact spun the bus 180 degrees clockwise and overturned the tractor-trailer.

Residents help fill 14 Manatee County School District buses with 84,050 pounds of food as part of a "Stuff the Bus" event. The district organizes a group of volunteers to get the food into the buses and over to a local food bank.
