During a 29-day pilot period, cameras on just one of Volusia County Schools’ 229 buses capture a total of 71 violations. Eight out of every 10 violations occur between 1 and 3 p.m., with 67% of the violations occurring on either Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials believe the bear is young and in search of new territory. Residents say the bear was walking down the street in the morning and, if it had been a school day, children could have been in danger.

In Monday’s accident, the school bus turns left in front of a semitrailer and is struck at the rear. Officials say the impact spun the bus 180 degrees clockwise and overturned the tractor-trailer.

School Training Solutions, which offers training to meet state-mandated in-service instruction requirements for bus drivers, is partnering with four counties in Florida. Statewide budget cuts caused the counties to look for a more economical solution for driver training, according to the company.

Residents help fill 14 Manatee County School District buses with 84,050 pounds of food as part of a "Stuff the Bus" event. The district organizes a group of volunteers to get the food into the buses and over to a local food bank.
