Matt Collins observes the school bus drift through an intersection, and it appears as though no one is driving the vehicle. When he runs up to the bus and opens the door, he finds the driver slumped over without a pulse, so he puts on the bus’ parking brake and begins administering CPR on the driver.

Kelly Smith, a driver for a Pennsylvania school district, is found on the ground outside the building after she crashed her bus into it. Officials investigating the accident say Smith was ejected from the bus and may have died prior to the crash.

Pennsylvania DOT changes diabetic regulations for bus drivers

Among the revisions is the requirement that in order to receive a diabetic waiver, a school bus driver’s healthcare provider must verify that the driver has had no severe hypoglycemic reactions or symptomatic hyperglycemia, and that the driver has been free from an insulin reaction that has resulted in a loss of consciousness, attention or awareness, or has required assistance from another person.
Bill aims to increase bus safety, reduce costs

New Michigan law puts requirements for the state’s school bus drivers in line with those at the federal level. Changes have been made to training and medical exam mandates, and a health standard has been set for drivers with known illnesses. The reforms are expected to save $600,000 statewide.
