Clinton Global Initiative partner wins grant to build electric school buses

The Commissioners of the California Energy Commission approved a grant to National Strategies for $1.4 million for an all electric school bus demonstration program in California. Coupled with a previous grant, the total of $2.2 million will lead to the development of six buses that will be deployed in Torrance Unified School District, Kings Canyon Unified School District and Napa Valley Unified School District.
Denis Gallagher named SBF Contractor of the Year

Gallagher has also been at the forefront in adopting alternative fuels in school transportation — his company has made the largest single order of propane school buses to date: more than 400.
CleanFUEL USA fuel system powers new Thomas propane bus

In retirement, Ron Latko launches consulting career

Soon after May 22, his last day working as director of transportation for Mesa Public Schools, Latko officially started Latko Consulting Inc. He plans to use his extensive knowledge in alternative fuels and expertise in pupil transportation to help school bus companies and propane companies improve sales, and assist districts across the U.S. in becoming more efficient and saving money.
Electric school bus production to increase with $7.3M powertrain investment

Funding from investors comes as the second Motiv Power Systems-equipped Trans Tech all-electric school bus is delivered to Kings Canyon Unified School District in Reedley, California. The supplier expects to fulfill orders for 20 this year, an estimate that may reach 100 in 2015, said Motiv Power Systems Founder and CEO Jim Castelaz.
Parker Hannifin debuts CNG fuel dispenser

The supplier introduced a complete industrial and fleet fuel dispensing solution for high-flow, high-cycle CNG applications to the North American market at the 2014 Alternative Clean Transportation Expo. Central to the solution is the new Parker Industrial Bulk CNG Dispenser, the only entirely integrated fuel dispenser on the market, according to the supplier.
Electric buses could save districts millions, study finds

The study, conducted by the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, examined the cost-effectiveness of electric school buses that use vehicle-to-grid technology, discharging their batteries into the electrical grid when not in use and getting paid for the service. Over 14 years, an electric bus fleet using the technology could save an estimated $38 million, according to the research.
Converted electric school bus debuts at California district

In a new pilot project, Gilroy Unified School District handed over an old diesel school bus and got it back as an electric school bus. In addition to the conversion, the district was supplied with a solar array to help generate electricity to power the bus.

Features of Alliance AutoGas’ new T3MR Fleet Fuel Management System include a durable card reader system, data management, real-time communications and an ultra-low-emission fueling nozzle. Company officials say that the system will provide fleet managers with the ability to better monitor and control fuel inventories in real time.
John Clements to serve as advisor for Motiv Power Systems

Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s new Blue Bird Propane Vision school buses will replace 12- to-13-year-old diesel buses. The propane units will go into operation for the 2014-15 school year.
Collins Bus Corp. launches new CNG Type A school bus

The school bus manufacturer has partnered with Westport on the bus, which features the Westport WiNG Power System, a dedicated natural gas fuel system. The bus also features a large passenger-side cab view window, an exterior storage compartment, and it provides an estimated 250- to 300-mile range. Collins Bus is accepting orders for the bus, and delivery to customers will begin in the fall, according to the company.
STA secures $10 million California contract

The school bus contractor will serve San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools beginning in January under the five and a half year agreement, and it will provide 133 new, ultra-low-emission vehicles and 31 propane autogas vehicles. STA also reports that all major contracts that were part of the acquisition of Atlantic Express’ California assets have been extended.
8.0L PIthon engine to power Thomas Built propane bus
