I think we are getting to the point where the age of 42 is the only acceptable age of a bus driver, in the eyes of the media.
I've known people in their 80's who could out-drive anyone, and I've known people in their 30's who had no business behind the wheel. Age regulations won't work, it's not one size fits all...but the clowns (lawmakers) have to keep the majority happy, since they need a majority vote.

Age restrictions would be a disaster making it even harder to find bus drivers , as said before most of them are retirees just looking for extra income . |

Though people are now coming out as "TransAge" so if all goes down hill , just tell all your old drivers to come out as 42 years olds and since they feel 42 years old , it makes it true . |

Looks like the driver has been charged and the lawsuits are starting. At least one against the school for hiring the driver in the first place (given his driving record).
The superintendent is claiming that the state only gave them info that said he qualified, nothing about his past. Time will tell if that's true, but if it is, reform will be needed.
In Ohio all school transportation drivers are in a central database that interfaces with the BMV. We have to check those records at least 2x annually, but many of us do it monthly. It costs us nothing to do so and is as simple as clicking a few checkboxes.
As long as they have lived in this state their entire lives, it's a lifetime check. I haven't had to do any out of state checks, so I know nothing of it. I've turned down 4 candidates this year due to stuff that happened a long time ago (lots of stuff). The NJ crash makes me feel better about that.
Does your state allow for easy checks? Lifetime or limited? |

Very interesting! We aren't required to "watch" they postings like that but we have a site called Judici that posts all court proceedings. Not all courts are posting on it and it's not required for them to do so. When we hire someone they have to go through a background check but when they pass that there isn't anything further required. |
