Ok, what I am looking for is real data on the cost per mile you are getting on 2016-2018 IC conventional buses. If you have data on Gasoline, or diesel separated that would be great too. I am NOT looking for fuel mileage.
Please only respond if you have real data on these buses only.
Thanks all. |

I show on my fleet software as far as diesel fuel cost per mile, on 2016-18 IC conv bus with cummins engine at current diesel prices.. Bus average shows 22.8 cents/mile since purchased, 24.6 c/m since first day of 2017.. this is not taking in to consideration human error in data entry at pump and office staff finger slips, also we run a large area and purchase fuel from a couple different vendors at multiple locations , so cost per gallon varies slightly from one bus to another.. Also has varied alot for last to years couple years ago we were down to 1.199/gal now back up hovering around 2 dollars, no road use tax paid here for schools.. |

That's great, however do you have the total cost per mile. This includes parts and labor? |

I ran a 2016 (Cummins 240hp) for you, using last year's numbers so that it would not include one-time startup costs like retreads on back, cameras, radio, etc...
$2.32/mile, including fuel (diesel) which averaged $1.96/gallon. No real parts costs to write home about, maybe a seat cover, wiper blades, DEF, washer fluid, oil & filters.
To be fair, we had a major idling problem around here...Synovia has helped that!

Just curious what you used for cost? Seems high! is that including purchase price? and? I check one of my 2017's(we acquired in Sept 2016)with 29100 miles on it.. Not including anything but cost of parts used, shop labor(at 50/hr) and fuel(around 185 avg last 2 years), still only get 26 to 27 cents/mile even if I add in say 10 percent of purchase cost for each year it only comes out to around .98 cents/mile I was figuring a 10 year life of bus, Think cost would be slightly less if length of life is figured longer.... Maybe my math is off, or I am not adding in all cost I should? leaving something out? My drivers definitely don't make 1.34/mile in wages, lol ...quote: Originally posted by Thomasbus24

That's what the treasurer says we spent on the bus (excluding driver)/miles driven. But it just occured to me that she's probably including fleet insurance in that...so it's useless for this discussion. |

This is what I come up with. It cost us .308 cents a mile to operate the 2014 internationals It cost us .222 cents a mile to operate the 2016 Blue birds.
That means it cost us $11,587.46 more for the year to operate International school buses then it did to operate the bluebirds. That $11,587 counts fuel, labor and all parts that aren't covered under warranty as well as routine maintenance like oil changes. |

Are you comparing the 2014 IH and 2016 BB with the same engines? I can see if your comparing the 2014 IC with IH motor in it,? cost would definitely be higher.... I don't think I want to even look at the cost of operation for my 2012-2014's, lol..... Since purchasing the IC's with 6.7 Cummins motors in them I can see a big difference in cost of operation, 1/2 the oil in sump to change, less expensive oil filter, and not nearly as many issues warranty or not, less down time... even with added cost of def fluid.. seems to be better.. Definitely sounds like your birds are doing the job more efficiently... |

My 2 IC's with the cummins 6.7's are running .25 a miles. My '12 and '13 model IC's are at .38 a mile. My VT-365 fleet is at .90 a mile. But that does include new motors for all of them. |

Confirmed, she charges the insurance per bus, so that's why my number was so high. No breakdown without it available. Sorry. |
