Ricon lift. I was surprised to learn today that a cracked lift arm is not covered under the 5 year Ricon warranty. The lift is about 3 years old.

Defect found during routine safety inspection.

Anyone have success getting warranty beyond the standard?

I spec'd our last lift buses with 1000 lb Braun lifts. They are almost trouble free unlike Ricon we're constantly working on them. I've replaced several of those arms pictured for that exact same crack. Of course ours were out of warranty when it happened.

Thanks Joe, I will rewrite our specs!
We will be ordering a new lift bus soon.

File on them at NHTSA.gov would be my advice. +1 for Braun, they have given us outstanding customer service and especially over an intermittant issue with our newest lift bus.

We had similar problems with our Ricon Lift. There is supposed to be a recall out on them for various issues. We received our notice, but I don't believe they reimbursed us for the repairs (it was completed before I started here). Needless to say, the lift failed again this school year and I got approval to just have the lift totally replaced with a new Braun lift. The bus is too new to have years more headaches out of the Ricon lift, but not new enough to have any warranty left. Thankfully all our buses now have Braun lifts. Ricon's service is just terrible. Both shops we use for lift work are certified in both Braun and Ricon recommended the Braun lift.

That looks like a poor weld.

We have 81 Braun's and 5 Ricons. Speaks for itself.

If Ricon has a 5 year warranty and that's not covered I'd keep going up the chain until I got a remedy. What would they cover?

+1 on the Braun product. I long ago gave up on getting any support on parts or service from Ricon.
