Hello all, the school has an 04 IC DT530 RE300 with a problem. The driver reports no heat and an overflowing surge tank. We replaced the water pump, t-stat, various hoses and belts several months ago. Also, just got an oil sample back and the sample says that there is coolant in the oil. We replaced the o-rings on the sleeves 6 years ago except for the #6 cylinder (too hard to get at.) There is no overheating, the temp gauge stays at 210 when driving. Could combustion gases be getting through that #6 sleeve o-rings? Any advice is appreciated.
Probably best to pull the pan first and pressurize the cooling system and look to see if coolant in the oil is leaking from from the sleeve orings. Combustion gases in cooling system more likely from head or head gasket I would think.
We have FE fleet and we had a problem with the air compressor building air and pressurizing the cooling system. We found this because the overflow tube would dump coolant on the ground after a few minutes of it running. We replaced the air compressor and it solved the problem. Something to think about before you do a head gasket. As far as coolant in the oil, that sounds like a head gasket.
