Allll of a sudden the back of the bus has become pretty bouncy, it has air ride bags. 72 Passenger Freightliner. It does not bottom out like if a bag was shot. Nothing looks wrong underneath or look broken. Any ideas? I'm not a mechanic just the owner and driver trying to save a few dollars.

Shocks are good for about the life of a set of brake shoes. We change both at the same time. Also look at the transverse rod, top of diff. to frame rail for missing bolts, bad insulators, and cracks at mounting on frame rail.

I'm with tigger2 check that torque arm above the diff, we've had one that lost the bolts. It bounced and dog tracked.

Checked everything, all is tight nothing missing. The shocks look and feel wet on the left. So I'm thinking it is a oil filled type shock absorber? And it went bad??

It's amazing what a set of shocks will do for ride quality. Some people think that the shocks don't do a thing when it has leaf springs or air ride. Change those shocks and their eyes about bug out of their head with the difference in ride quality.

But at the same time, some people think shocks will fix everything :) In this case, sure sounds like shocks

Are they hard to change? I don't have a lift. Wondering if it is something I can do or have to take it to a shop.

I have never needed to lift a bus to change shocks.

Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback

Here in the salt on the roads in the winter zone you would likely need torch's to remove.
