ISB series engines are not "lined cylinders".

oil cooler should put oil in collant resivor. They have freeze plugs inside the head under valve cover. thats where mine had issues at. you will still have to pull head to fix if thats the problem its not a bad job. If u dont have cummins quick serve i would recommend signing up for it. Its free, you put your engine serial number in and it brings up servic manulas and parts brake down.

sorry oilcooler will put oil in collant. I pulled head off took to machine shop to be checked. they said freeze plugs was very common problem for the 6.7s at around 100k miles. they said the took pocket screwdriver and just touched frreze plugs and they crumbled.

you could drain oil remove valve cover and clean all the leftover sludge out put cooling system under presure see if u can see any leaks. i dont think you can check oil cooler other than by visual inspection, and if your going to remove it might as well replace it. I think there only about $100

What year is this bus? I had a similar issue with one of my 2010 pre-DEF C2’s and it was just a freeze plug. If you search “2008 Vision Cummins 6.7 coolant loss” on this board there is additional info on this topic. I guess they switched to stainless plugs on the newer stuff.

The oil cooler is a bit over $300. It can be tested by Cummins. We have yet to replace an oil cooler.

do you have to pull the head to inspect the freeze plugs? or can you see and inspect from just pulling the valve cover?

You can see them by pulling valve coover after u get all the nasty oil out of the way. theyre kinda hid under the rocker assemblies but should be able to reach them with screwdriver.

yes. when mine did this it drained whole cooling system in matter of a few minutes. You could see visible rust on the top of the freeze plugs.

We did this at the beginning of school without pulling the head. You may have to remove the rockers, but it is doable.

Pull the valve cover, and pressure up the system, you will be able to see the coolant puddling up around the leak.

6.7s also have problems with the EGR cooler putting coolant in the oil, but I'm not sure what year they started adding those coolers.
