Good Morning everyone.

I have a 2002 Blue Bird AA RE with a John Deere 8.1 CNG and Allison WTEC III that will not go into drive or reverse after the bus warms up.

1. No DTC's
2. Hydraulic Radiator fan always running on high.
3. Temperature guage reads about 220.
4. Infrared gun says upper radiator hose is 187 F / Lower = 170 F
5. If you rev the engine up and let the rpms fall down to the lowest reading the bus will go into gear if timed right.
6. fluid level = good.
7. filters changed = yes.

Any help or advice?

maybe trans is getting an erratic engine rpm signal. does it also have a hard shifting issue when you do manage to trick it into gear?

Once it gets into drive, the bus drives normally and the idle speed drops about 100-200 rpms and sounds like its sputtering. But drives good.
