Hoping to learn some by posting this but the problem I'm having is the low air buzzer and light isn't working. Pulled the dash out trying to locate the buzzer however no luck . The light gets power directly from making contact with the computer board on instrument panel which there is power there no light though. Any ideas on my problem, what to check and where would be great. Thanks in advance everyone
You did not mention what year FE you are working on. AS for the 05 vintage it is a simple circuit to diagnosis and repair. Here is a description of the circuit.
Current (ign+) to the light on the dash comes from fuse F22(5A) on the side electrical panel then travels up to the instrument cluster on circuit A28 which then splices into A29D then goes into the connector on the back of the small circuit board on the left of the IP cluster. Current goes thru terminal 12-4, thru the low air pressure lamp and back out on terminal 12-9. power then travels on circuit A40A to terminal 4 of the low air/oil water buzzer located just to the right of the steering column behind the instrument cluster. Current then travels to the low air switch located on top of the air governor at the compressor on circuit A40. The low air switches closes when air drops to near 60 psi completing the circuit and turning on the buzzer as well as the light on the dash. The buzzer gets its power from fuse F24(10A) and it must have power for the buzzer to work. The light will work with or without current to the buzzer.
The things to look at are: 1. the fuse 2. the low air lamp (they may look good but can be bad) 3. the low air switch (changed many of them) 4. buzzer under the dash (changed very few of them) 5. all terminals and the circuit board connections (solder connections)
It's a simple circuit that can cause all kind of issues. If the light is good or bad the buzzer should work regardless. Since you sound like that you do not have either a light or buzzer I would look at the buzzer. Once you find it (mounted on the right of the steering column) make sure it has power. One way to check is to see if the buzzer beeps with the key on and engine off(KOEO) (with no oil pressure the buzzer should beep). If does not that os a good indicator that the buzzer might be the issue.
I am addressing intermittent operation of the low air light and buzzer on a 2008 FE300 right now. Problem has been traced to a loose terminal on the low pressure switch on top of air compressor.
