As most of you know, our district has purchased some propane buses over the last, almost, four years. We took delivery of our first one in April 2011 & it now has 70k miles on it. After years of having diesels I really never give much thought as to how long the spark plugs would last on these. In retrospect I guess if I would have thought about it I would have thought approximately 100k. At any rate, my driver started to complain about a miss early last week and thought the fuel mileage was not as good. So, I tried to run my Snap-On scan tool on it but couldn't get it to work. (That is another story for another day) I sent it back out and the next day I brought it back in and figured out the miss the old fashioned way, lol. Ended up that one plug must have been a shade worse than the rest making one cylinder miss. They all had .020 more gap than they should have. Purchased new plugs at NAPA across the street and all is well! |

That's good real world data. Now you know to schedule plug changes on those engines at about 60,000. That's not bad.

Wait, wait wait wait wait....that service note blames the issue on drivers not waiting to start. I just demo'ed an LP Vision last month and that's impossible.
Were the older LP's not set up like the new ones as far as starting? |

That's right Thomasbus24. When we demo'ed a propane last year, same thing. My drivers hated that feature. They stated "The bus just starts whenever it wants to" |

The 8.1 was from Clean Fuel USA and the driver had to wait until the "wait to start" light went off and then crank it just as you would any car or truck. I like the feature that Roush has, you only have to wait a short while for the light to go off and then it's all automatic from there. |

I assume you all know the reason for the wait, but in case not here it is. The fuel pump inside the tank "circulates" fuel through the system to "purge" all the vapor out so you don't have the lean condition that was mentioned in the tech bulletin that Kirley posted. If you don't wait long enough it seldom will pick up and run correctly so you have to turn it off and start the process over. In other words it runs like you have a plugged fuel filter. lol |

Shane, I sent you an email. You might see if it ended up in your junk email box, I have seen that happen with our emails here. |
