Has anyone added A/C to their buses?
If so, what type/brand and how well did this work?

Our newer buses were ordered with Bus Air A/C, our older buses were outfitted with Omega A/C units. No matter what brand you can't KEEP THEM RUNNING!!! They are all junk. Drivers complain about the A/C not cooling in the afternoon run when it's the hottest part of the day.

Edit: forgot to mention that the Bus Air units are built into the front and rear bulk head and the Omega units are mounted on the left and right sides of the bus.

You can keep them running but they are a LOT of work. If you can at all avoid it, you will be saving yourself a lot of headaches. Oh, not only do the cause a lot of headaches they cost a lot to maintain too. Be sure to mention that a condenser will run $1,600. lol

Our special needs busses here are spec'd with Thermo-king center mounted SR-50c units.... seem to work great... bus isn't the most well sealed and insulated structure... so ocasional complainents of not cooling well on hot days occur... any A/C on a bus can be costly to work on... but these have five year warranties, which so far have covered expenses..

We have some older TK-SR40 units that are over 5 years old... generaly somewhere between 200 to 2000 dollars each depending on what parts fail... keeps them functional for the year..

We use to have some Carrier A/C systems they were very costly to keep in operating condition.. I would stay away from them if they are still available... they were similar to the Bus air A/C described above....double the parts and hoses double the trouble!!!

All of ours have ac units. They can be a pain to keep running, if you don't stay on top of them. With a decent AC recovery machine and the right training, they are just like anything else. PMI's make the difference.
